Cozy Cocooning

The Design Process

Sleeping in never looked this good!!

Our clients, a busy professional couple with two young children, had recently returned in Canada after several years abroad. After purchasing a home with traditional architecture, it became imperative to harmoniously integrate their affinity for Mid-Century Modern and Craftsman aesthetics without necessitating structural modifications.

In this first phase of the project, we focused on the primary bedroom, leaning in on a dark and saturated colour palette to create an atmosphere of warmth and seclusion. The traditional columns were painted in the same rich, deep teal as the walls, allowing them to seamlessly blend into the surroundings, while the ceiling was painted in a subtle grey to soften the transition from the walls. Expansive blackout curtains were installed to shield the room from intrusive morning sunlight, preserving the sanctity of this tranquil retreat.

Taking inspiration from the clients’ existing walnut dresser, we curated a selection of furnishings—bed, nightstands, and a bench—that not only echoed the Mid-Century ethos but also appeared as though they were original to the home. The rich warmth of the walnut pieces, combined with the luminous allure of brass accents and strategically placed artworks, creates a cohesive sanctuary. Balanced by hints of black and enhanced with plush textiles, the space now offers our clients a cozy cocoon away from the chaos of everyday life.
